Shipping Stock

Shipping is the process of removing items from your inventory to fulfill customer orders. In Nooryx, a shipment transaction performs two vital functions: it reduces stock quantity (the physical count) and realizes the Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) for your financial reporting.

Unlike an Adjustment (which is used to correct errors or record loss) a Shipment is treated as a revenue-generating event.

The Shipping Flow

  1. Navigate to the Inventory page in the sidebar or the master SKU page.
  2. Click the dropdown menu in the top-right corner and select Ship Stock.
  3. A form will appear where you define the details of the outbound movement.

Choosing a Source Bucket (Ship From)

An important decision when shipping stock is determining where the stock is drawn from logically. Nooryx distinguishes between Available stock (sellable) and Reserved stock (allocated), as described in Understanding Stock State. The Ship From dropdown when shipping allows you to specify this source:

  • Available: Select this for immediate orders, such as walk-in retail sales, where the inventory was never put on hold.
  • Reserved: Select this to fulfill existing orders where stock was previously allocated using the Reserve Workflow.

Preventing Negative Stock

Nooryx protects your data integrity by preventing negative inventory. You cannot ship 5 units if you only have 4. Additionally, the system validates the specific bucket you choose; you cannot ship from the Reserved bucket if you have no active reservations.

Input Fields

The shipping form captures the essential data needed to trace the movement. In addition to SKU code and Location which are searchable, the other fields are as follows:

FieldRequirementDescription
QuantityRequiredThe number of units to ship. This must be a positive number.
Ship FromRequiredDetermines if stock is drawn from Available or Reserved inventory.
NotesOptionalAny special instructions, delivery details, or internal reference information.

Financial Impact

Every shipment creates a permanent financial record. When you submit the form, Nooryx calculates the value of the items leaving your warehouse based on your organization's Valuation Method (FIFO, LIFO, or WAC).

This calculation happens automatically. You do not need to manually enter cost prices during shipment. The system uses the cost history stored in the ledger to assign the correct value to the shipment.

Submitting the Shipment

Once you confirm the shipment:

  1. Validation: Nooryx verifies that the Location has enough stock in the selected bucket.
  2. State Update: The On Hand quantity is immediately reduced. Depending on the Ship From choice, either the Available or Reserved bucket is decremented.
  3. Ledger Entry: A Shipment transaction is written to the ledger. This entry serves as the immutable proof of shipment.
